York Lions

"Lions" is the name of the sports teams of York University, located in Toronto, Ontario. They were known as the "Yeomen" until 2003. They are members of Ontario University Athletics (OUA) and U Sports (formerly known as CIS).

History[]

The York Yeomen hockey team started in the Ontario Intercollegiate Athletic Association (OIAA) sometime between 1958-59 and 1964-65 (the OIAA records for 1958-59 to 1963-64 are not available on Wikia) and remained there until the conference ended in 1970-71. In 1971-72 they joined the Ontario Universities Athletic Association (OUAA) once the Ontario and Quebec conferences were re-organized along provincial lines. The York Lions have continued in the OUAA/OUA since 2003.

Also, in 1965 Osgoode Hall became part of York University. The Osgoode Hall Legalites continued to play until 1968-69. Their students are now eligible to play for the York Lions.

1971-72 started two division format: East and West.
1975-76 started three division format: East, Central, and West.

¶ 1983-84 - Played ineligible player, penalized five points.
† 1999-2000 - Forfeited ten games due to an ineligible player. In the four games that York actually lost, the scores remained the same. In the six games that York won, York's opponents were assigned a 1-0 win.
