Xcel-Energy-Center

The Xcel Energy Center was built in 2000 for the NHL's Minnesota Wild, on the site of the old Civic Center in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota. The arena has hosted several college hockey games, including the WCHA's annual Hall of Fame game in 2004, a 'home' game for the Minnesota State Mavericks against the Minnesota Golden Gophers in January, 2005, as well as the WCHA Final Five Tournament. No game, however, was more significant than the 2002 Frozen Four, where a hometown crowd saw the Minnesota Golden Gophers win their first NCAA title since 1979, after years of frustration.
