The Winnipeg Rangers Athletic Club operated a Canadian Junior "A" hockey team from Winnipeg, Manitoba.
They were members of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League for 21 seasons, from 1934 to 1955.
History[]
During the 1933-34 season, St. John's College and the University of Manitoba disagreed on the use of non U of M students. St. John's College is one of four colleges that started the University of Manitoba. St. John's refused to comply with the University's wishes, continuing to dress the 2 players in question. However the Team vowed to register outside U of M jurisdiction for the following year. And they did actually that, forming the Winnipeg Rangers Athletic Club.
In 1947, became affiliated with the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League, becoming the Winnipeg Black Hawks.
The team changed affiliation in '52' to the Cleveland Barons of the American Hockey League, becoming the Winnipeg Barons.
Hockey legend Eddie Shore purchased the team in '55'.
