Template:WHA Stub The Winnipeg Jets were a professional hockey team based in the city of Winnipeg, Manitoba (Canada) that played in both the World Hockey Association and the National Hockey League. The club was moved in 1996 due to financial difficulties, becoming the Phoenix Coyotes.
Founded in 1972 as one of the founding WHA teams, the Jets won three times the Avco Cup in the WHA, in 1976, 1978 and 1979. When the league folded after the 1978-79 season, they, along with the Quebec Nordiques, the Edmonton Oilers and the New England Whalers, were admitted in the NHL.
