Franchise history
2003-2014: Washington Junior Nationals
2014-Present: Vermont Lumberjacks

The Washington Junior Nationals were an USA Hockey-sanctioned Tier III Jr. A ice hockey team from Laurel, Maryland, until the 2010-11 season the team played in Arlington, Virginia at the 1,200-seat Kettler Capitals Iceplex, official practice facility of the Washington Capitals. They played in the South Division of the Atlantic Junior Hockey League (AJHL) and then the the Eastern Hockey League for the 2013-14 season. The franchise rights were transferred to Burlington, Vermont and the team became the Vermont Lumberjacks.

The players, ages 16–20, carry amateur status under Junior A guidelines and hope to earn a spot on higher levels of junior hockey in the United States and Canada, Canadian Major Junior, college, and eventually professional teams.

Some notable alumni include Jarred Tinordi of the London Knights, who was drafted 22nd overall by the Montreal Canadiansin the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, and his brother Matt, who plays for the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Division I men's ice hockey team.
