History[]
The 2009-10 season proved to be another good one for Waseda. The 2009 Kanto University Ice Hockey League saw Waseda finish third overall in the Division 1 Group A standing, with a 5 wins, 2 losses and 3 ties record. Waseda thus earned a place in the league playoffs, where they met Meiji in the semifinals. Meiji, one of the only two teams who managed to beat Waseda in the regular season (along with Toyo) proved to be a challenge for Waseda. Both teams settled for a 3-3 tie in the first game of the series; Waseda narrowly won 4-3 after having trailed behind Meiji for most of the first two periods. This earned them the right to meet Toyo in the finals. Waseda started off with a solid 8-5 win in the first match of the series. Toyo won the second game 4-3; it was however not enough to win on the goal differential and Waseda clinched the league.
Waseda then went on to win the 82nd Japan Intercollegiate Games on January 9th with a 4-1 win over Meiji. They also achieved a decent performance in the 77th All-Japan Championship, losing to the professional Nippon Paper Cranes in the Quarterfinals, meaning Waseda ranked among the 8 best teams in the country.
