Wade Klippenstein (b. May 5 1970 in Boissevain, Manitoba, Canada) is a former left winger who had a brief professional career in the American Hockey League, ECHL and WCHL.
Klippenstein was drafted by the Quebec Nordiques late in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft before playing three seasons with the Alaska-Fairbanks Nanooks of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. While he failed to crack the Nordiques' roster after he graduated, he did however play 27 games with the Cornwall Aces of the AHL, Quebec's farm team, in 1993-94. He also played for the Greensboro Monarchs and the Dayton Bombers of the ECHL, as well as for the Alaska Gold Kings of the WCHL. His pro career was however short-lived, and in 1996, Klippenstein retired as a player.
Coaching career[]
Klippenstein turned to coaching soon after retireing. In 1997-98, Klippenstein joined the Saskatoon Blades as assistant-coach. His stay lasted a single season; he had to wait until 2000 before returning to his coaching duties, this time with the Prince Albert Raiders. After one season as an assistant there, he was named head coach following Donn Clark's firing 16 games into the 2001-02 WHL season. Klippenstein finished the season as head coach and returned the next season, only to be fired at his turn 30 games into the season, with a 11-14-2 record.
Klippenstein returned in 2004-05 as assistant with his former Alaska-Fairbanks Nanooks. He spent three years there, then made a WHL return in 2007 as an assistant with the Prince George Cougars.
