Justin Lee receives Vince Leah Trophy
from Commissioner Kim Davis

The Vince Leah Memorial Trophy is presented annually to the Manitoba Junior Hockey League player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition.

Vince Leah was a sportswriter with both the Winnipeg Tribune and Winnipeg Free Press for over sixty years. For more than three decades his dedication made it possible for youngsters to play hockey. In 1934, Leah founded the Excelsiors Hockey Club; forty of those players went on to play pro hockey. Leah authored books on football and hockey, including "A History of Hockey in Manitoba".

Previously, the Gordon Petrie Memorial Trophy, donated by the staff of the King George Hospital. Petrie was a well known Manitoba hockey figure and MJHL alumni.

Hall of Famer Bobby Clarke captured the award in 1967. He had an outstanding rookie campaign, setting league records for goals, assists, and points, while leading the Flin Flon Bombers to the MJHL Championship.
