The Upsala Vikings were a men's ice hockey team representing Upsala College in East Orange, New Jersey. The team played in the ECAC's Division III league from 1979 to 1985 and then the ECAC South from 1985 to 1988 when the program was ended due to financial issues at the school.
the school was affiliated with a conservative Swedish Lutheran Church denomination opening in 1893. The school had suffered from severe financial problems and declining enrollment through the 1970's and 1980's and was further plagued by under qualified students filling spots in the school that could not pay tuition. Enrollment had declined from about 1,500 in 1990 to 435 in 1995. The demographics of the area around the school had changed greatly from when the school opened the East Orange campus in 1924 until the school was closed in 1995 upon hearing that the school's accreditation would not be renewed and the fact that the school was $12.5 million in debt.
