Turkmenistan is a nation in central Asia. It was a part of the Soviet Union until 1991.
It has a population of over 5,000,000. The capital and largest city is Ashgabat. It borders Afghanistan to the southeast, Iran to the south and southwest, Uzbekistan to the east and northeast, and Kazakhstan to the north and northwest.
