began covering sports as a teenager for the Brandon Sun... came to Winnipeg and joined the Canadian Press... in the late 1930s accepted a position with the sports department of the Winnipeg Tribune... went to Toronto during World War II and became a columnist for the Globe and Mail... found time to write many sport and hockey books over the years... also contributed to Maclean's, True, The Saturday Evening Post, The Canadian and Weekend Magazines... inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1984, receiving the Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award.
