"Bold" is the name of the sports teams of Toronto Metropolitan University, located in Toronto, Ontario. They are members of Ontario University Athletics (OUA) and U Sports (formerly known as CIS).
The university started as the "Ryerson Institute of Technology" in 1948 and changed its name to "Ryerson Polytechnical Institute" in 1966, "Ryerson Polytechnic University" in 1993, and then "Ryerson University" in 2001. The sports teams were known as the "Ryerson Rams". The current name was adopted after the 2021-2022 academic and athletic year.
History[]
The Ryerson Rams hockey team started in 1948-49. The Ryerson Alumni Site and a team Hall of Fame story claim that the team won championships in the Minor College Hockey League (MCHL or MCL) in 1951-52 and the intermediate Central Ontario Hockey League (COHA or COHL) four times between 1953 and 1957. It also claims that they won Ontario Intercollegiate Athletic Association (OIAA) titles in 1959 and 1963.
In any event, Ryerson remained in the OIAA until the conference ended in 1970-71. In 1971-72 they joined the Ontario Universities Athletic Association (OUAA) once the Ontario and Quebec conferences were re-organized along provincial lines.
