Tommi Kivistö (born on June 7, 1991 in Vantaa) is a Finnish professional ice hockey defenceman currently playing with theJokerit in KHL. He was drafted 208th overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the Carolina Hurricanes.
Club career[]
Kivistö began playing junior hockey with the Jokerit organisation. In the 2008-09 season, he played with the Red Deer Rebels of the WHL and also played at the CHL Top Prospects Game.
Kivistö made his senior debut during the 2009-10 season in which he played 18 regular season games plus 2 play-off games with the Jokerit under-20 team, 22 regular season games and 3 play-off games with the Jokerit of the SM-liiga, 2 games on loan with the Kiekko-Vantaa of the Mestis and 2 games on loan with the Suomi U20 of the Mestis.
In the 2010-11 season, Kivistö played 5 games with the Jokerit under-20 team, 38 regular season games and 7 play-off games with the Jokerit of the SM-liiga, 5 games on loan with the Kiekko-Vantaa of the Mestis and 4 games on loan with the Suomi U20 of the Mestis.
On June 1, 2011, Kivistö was signed by the Carolina Hurricanes organisation. However, he spent the whole 2011-12 season on loan in Finland. He played 26 games with the Jokerit of the SM-liiga and 20 regular season games plus 4 play-off games with the Kiekko-Vantaa of the Mestis. In this season, he had the highest average time on ice (25:51) in the Mestis.
In the 2012-13 season, Kivistö played 17 games with the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL and 48 regular season games and 12 play-off games with the Florida Everblades of the ECHL.
Kivistö was then loaned to the Ilves of the Liiga (formerly SM-liiga) for the 2013-14 season.
In 2014, Kivistö signed a one-year contract with the Ilves of the Liiga.
In 2015 - 2017, Kivistö was playing with the Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg of the KHL. In the 2015-16 season, he was named the KHL Defenceman of the Week on February 7, 2016.
Since 2017, he is playing with the Jokerit of the KHL. He is currently signed there until the end of the 2021-22 season.
International career[]
Kivistö played with the Finnish National Team at the 2008 World U17 Hockey Challenge, 2008 and 2009 World U18 Championships (winning bronze at the 2009 tournament), 2009, 2010 and 2011 World Junior Championships, 2014, 2016 and 2018 World Championships (winning silver at the 2014 and 2016 tournaments) and at the 2018 Olympics.
