Thomas J. Gorence (born March 11, 1957) is a retired American professional ice hockey right winger who played six seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Philadelphia Flyers and Edmonton Oilers.

Playing career[]

A former University of Minnesota hockey player, Gorence played pro hockey for the Philadelphia Flyers (who drafted him with the 35th pick in the 1977 NHL Entry Draft) and Edmonton Oilers between 1978 and 1983. He was also a member of the United States national team at the 1981 Canada Cup and 1982 Ice Hockey World Championship tournaments.

Gorence turned pro in 1977-78 with the Maine Mariners of the American Hockey League. After one and a half seasons he was called up to the Philadelphia Flyers and played as a mostly defensive player until 1982-83. He did score a high of 24 goals in 1980-81.

He signed as a free agent with the Edmonton Oilers in 1983 but only played 12 games for them. In 1985 he signed with the New Jersey Devils but only played in the minor pros and retired that year.
