Did not play organized hockey until he was 11 years old. ... was defenseman throughout minor hockey career before being shifted to forward in major junior. ... started his junior career with the local Kenora Muskies of the MJHL. ... played three years of major junior hockey in the OHA. ... missed entire 1978-79 season with broken left wrist, an injury suffered during Washington's training camp. ... got his first opportunity to play in the NHL in the 1979-80 season when he dressed for 19 games with the Capitals. ... missed the entire 1982-83 season due to suspension from pro hockey. The suspension was handed down by the Central Hockey League after Coulis attacked referee Bob Hall during Game 5 of Dallas' CHL playoff series vs. Salt Lake on April 24, 1982 at Salt Lake City.
