Thomas Powell (born 12 February 1986) is an Australian ice hockey player currently playing for the Melbourne Ice in the Australian Ice Hockey League.

Playing career[]

Powell first played ice hockey for the Melbourne Ice of the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) in 2004.[1] During his first season he played 17 games, scoring 14 goals and recording eight assists.[1] The following year Powell joined the Melbourne Blackhawks of the Victorian Senior A league as well as playing for the Ice in the 2005 AIHL season.[1][2] In 2007 he was named the AIHL's MVP for the 2007 AIHL season.[1] During 2008 Powell was also a member of the Victorian state team in the Brown tournament for players aged 23 and under. He played four games, recording four goals and three assists.[3] In 2011 Powell was named as alternate captain for the Ice in the 2011 AIHL season. Powell is currently in his ninth season with the Ice, playing in the 2012 AIHL season.[1]

Powell was first called up to represent Australia in 2004 where he joined the national under-20 team to compete at the 2004 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships.[4] He played again for the under-20 team at the IIHF World U20 Championships in 2005 and 2006.[1] In 2008 Powell joined the national senior team to compete at the 2008 Men's World Ice Hockey Championships.[5] He has since represented Australia at three other World Championships.[1]
