Steve Makway (born April 26, 1983 in Trail, British Columbia) is a Canadian ice hockey defenceman who is currently playing for the Dundee Stars of the EIHL.
Junior career[]
Makway began his junior career in 2000 when he signed with the Kootenay Ice of the Western Hockey League. Makway would play two in a half seasons with Kootenay scoring 26 points in 115 regular season games and making 30 playoff appearances, including Kootenay's 2002 President's Cup and 2002 Memorial Cup championship teams. During the 2002-03 season, Makway was traded by Kootenay to the Tri-City Americans and scored 28 points in 53 regular season games.
Makway would spend his final season in junior hockey with the Battlefords North Stars of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League for the 2003-04 season. In 36 regular season games with Battlefords, Makway tallied 11 goals and 33 assists for 44 points.
Professional career[]
Following four years in juniors, Makway signed with the Central Hockey League's Laredo Bucks for the 2004-05 season. In his only season with Laredo, Makway would score twelve points in 56 games. Makway would move on to the United Hockey League where he would sign with the Flint Generals for the 2005-06 season. After scoring 12 points in 56 games, Makway was traded to the Missouri River Otters finishing the season with ten points in 31 games.
In 2006, Makway would return to the CHL, signing with the Memphis RiverKings. In his first season with the Kings, Makway would tally 41 points in 62 regular season games and three points in 18 playoff games. In his second season with the RiverKings, Makway had a career best 43 points in 64 regular season games and would tally another two points in three playoff games.
Makway would leave the CHL for the ECHL, signing with the Cincinnati Cyclones for the 2008-09 season. After scoring nine points in 18 games, Makway was traded to the Las Vegas Wranglers, completing a previous trade in which Cincinnati received goaltender Martin Houle.
In the 2009-10 CHL season Makway signed with the Mississippi RiverKings and was later traded to the Wichita Thunder.
