Stéphane Jean-Gilles Richer (born April 28, 1966 in Hull, Quebec) is a former Canadian professional ice hockey player who currently works as General Manager and Head Coach for the Hamburg Freezers of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga.
Playing career[]
Stephane Richer spent most of his professional career playing in the minors, but did play parts of three seasons in the NHL with the Tampa Bay Lightning (1992–93), Boston Bruins (1992–93), Florida Panthers (1993–94 and 1994–95). He played a total of 27 NHL games totaling 1 goal, 5 assists, and 6 points.
Richer left North America in 1995 to play for Adler Mannheim. He would remain with the team until 2002. Richer would spend his final season with the Frankfurt Lions before retiring in 2003.
Coaching career[]
Richer began his coaching career in 2004 as an assistant coach with Adler Mannheim. Midway through the season, he replaced Helmut de Raaf as Head Coach. In 2005, Richer was relieved of his head coaching duties by Greg Poss. Several weeks later, he replaced Bernhard Engelbrecht as head coach of the Kassel Huskies. On January 6, 2010 he signed an contract as General Manager for Kassel Huskies and on 25 March 2010 was named as Head Coach, where he will work in double function.[1]
