This article is about the Senior level team. For the defunct junior level team please see St. John's Jr. Capitals and for the present junior team please see St. John's Jr. Caps
Original Team[]
The St. John's Capitals were a senior amateur team in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. They played in the provincial senior competition.
They won the Herder Memorial Trophy, the provincial senior title, in 1970, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1987, and 1990.
Second Incarnation[]
The team would fold after the 1989-90 season. A new edition of the team was established in 2011 as a member of the Avalon East Senior Hockey League for the 2011-12 season in an effort to stabilize the league when the Newfoundland Senior Hockey League (2011-2014) was formed and took the Conception Bay North CeeBee Stars and Mount Pearl Blades and the AESHL was down to two teams. The new team would quickly become a force in the league winning the league playoffs in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2016. The team would move to the newly formed East Coast Senior Hockey League for the 2017-18 season and would win another championship. The team would then join the newly formed Newfoundland Senior Hockey League (2018- for the 2018-19 season.
