hockey being played outdoors at St. Bonaventure's (NLHHS)

St. Bonaventure's was a senior team in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador.

They were affiliated with the St. Bonaventure's College, a Catholic school in the city. Locals who were non-students could play, however.

Newfoundland was an independent nation until it joined Canada in July,1949.

St. Bon's, or the Bluegolds as they were known, dominated the nation's hockey in its early years. They won the Herder Memorial Trophy in 1936, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1940. 1945, 1946, 1947, 1948, and 1949. Only the influx of imports from the rest of Canada to the teams in western Newfoundland and Labrador put an end to St. Bon's domination.

They also won the St. John's City League championship (Boyle Trophy) an amazing 26 straight times until 1960. This league was run separately from the Herder competition.
