Serhiy Haiduchenko (Ukrainian: Сергій Гайдученко; Russian: Сергей Гайдученко, Sergei Gayduchenko; born June 6, 1989) is a Ukranian-Russian professional ice hockey goaltender currently playing for Lokomotiv Yaroslavl of the Kontinental Hockey League.

Early career[edit | edit source]

Gayduchenko began his career in Kiev, playing for the junior team at the Ldinka Hockey School. His first coach was Anatolii Donika, a successful former defenseman of the team Sokil Kyiv. Scouts from Yaroslavl took notice of his play, and invited him to move there and join the organization.

International Play[edit | edit source]

Team Ukraine has approached Gayduchenko to join, but so far he as only rebuffed any offers. His current intentions are to play for Russia's team. Since he had only held a Russian passport for less than 2 years,[1] he did not qualify to play for the Russian team under IIHF rules until after June 24, 2008, though he played with the Russian Under-18 squad in two non-IIHF events prior to this. Since since becoming eligible, however, he has not played for Russia.
