Scott Kristian Winkler (born 22 February 1990 in Asker) is a Norwegian professional ice hockey player. He currently plays for the Colorado College Tigers of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. He is the son of former Viking and Frisk Tigers player, Rod Winkler.[1]
Playing career
He started his career in 2005, playing for Frisk Tigers. After the 2006–07 season he signed with Russell Stover Stars of Kansas City, Missouri, where he scored 40 goals and had 52 assists for 92 points in 70 games, in the Midwest Elite Hockey League.[2]
21 June 2008, he was drafted by the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League in the third round as the 89th overall pick. The Stars' North American scout described him as "...very determined offensively and defensively ... plays a physical game with a lot of detail and he has good vision of the rink".[2]
International play
Winkler was one of Norway's best players of the 2008 IIHF World U18 Championships, when they got promoted to the Championship tournament. He scored 2 goals and had 5 assists. He also finished with a +6 rating. His former national team coach described him as "...a winger with excellent shooting skills, good attitude and moral, and a skater who finishes his checks properly".[1]
