Sam Nixon (born February 26, 1987) is an American women’s ice hockey player. She played collegiately for the St. Cloud State Huskies. Currently, she competes for the Minnesota Whitecaps. Nixon was part of the Whitecaps team that won the 2010 Clarkson Cup.

Playing career

At Blaine High School, Nixon was a two-sport athlete. She is the second all-time leading scorer in hockey at Blaine after lettering six times. She was a three-time All-Conference recipient and a two-time All-State player. While playing for the Blaine High School Bengals, she was named team MVP and two-time outstanding offensive player. In addition, she was the team captain and a two-time Lake Placid selection. Nixon was also the team captain in tennis.

NCAA

Her freshman season was 2005-06 and she registered seven points on three goals and four assists. Her first career goal was scored on November 12, 2005 versus North Dakota on Nov. 12, 2005. On March 4, 2006, Sam Nixon scored the game-winning goal against Ohio State in the first round of the WCHA Playoffs. The goal sent the Huskies to the WCHA Semifinals for the first time in school history.

At the National Hockey Center Nov. 9-10, 2007, Nixon scored three power play goals against North Dakota in the two game home series. On November 9, she tallied her first career two-goal game in a 3-3 overtime tie. The following day, she scored in a 3-1 win over North Dakota. She had seven shots on the weekend. For her efforts, she was named WCHA Offensive Player of the Week, the first time in her collegiate career that she has gained the WCHA weekly honor.

In her sophomore season (2006-07), Nixon played in 36 games as a sophomore and had 11 points (five goals and six assists). On February 3, 2007, she registered one goal and one assist against Minnesota. Her only power play goal of the season was scored on October 20, 2006 against Ohio State and it also proved to be the game-winning goal. Nixon recorded a career high in points with 17 during the 2007-08 season. She doubled her goal total and accumulated 10 on the season. ing her goal total from a year ago with 10. Of her ten goals, four were scored on the power play. For the season, she appeared in matches. On November 17, Nixon registered a goal and two assists versus Boston University. On November 9, she had her first multi-point game of the season. a two goal game against North Dakota For the 2008-09 season, Nixon set the all-time Husky record for most career games played with 147. In her NCAA career, Nixon missed just two games. She posted three straight games with an assist from Nov. 9 to Nov. 15. From January 24 to February 14, she had a stretch of six of seven games with at least one point.

Nixon played in 162 prep hockey games and scored a total of 243 points. As an eighth grader, she played in the Minnesota State Tournament. Her sister Ashley was a sophomore goaltender on the 2008-09 Husky squad.
