Samuel LoPresti (January 30, 1917 in Eveleth, Minnesota – December 11 1984) was an ice hockey goaltender. LoPresti played in the National Hockey League for the Chicago Black Hawks. On March 4, 1941, LoPresti set a still-unbroken NHL record when he faced 83 shots against the Boston Bruins. He was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame in 1973. His son Pete LoPresti also played in the NHL in the 1970s.
He played hockey for the local high school and for the senior Eveleth Rangers in 1936-37. LoPresti turned pro with the St. Paul Saints of the American Hockey Association the following season and spent three years there.
LoPresti started the 1940-41 season with the Kansas City Americans but was called up to the Chicago Blackhawks in mid-season. In that season LoPresti suffered through that 83 shot game. He was the regular goalie for the Hawks in 1941-42.
After spending two years in the American military in World War II, LoPresti played for the San Diego Skyhawks in 1944-45. He then sat out a season before playing senior hockey for Duluth and Eveleth teams in the Northern Amateur League.
He retired in 1951.
