Gusgiesebrecht

Roy George "Gus" Giesebrecht (September 14, 1917 in Pembroke, Ontario – December 27, 2006) was a professional ice hockey centre who played 135 games in the National Hockey League with the Detroit Red Wings.

He played junior hockey for the Ottawa St Malachys, Ottawa Jr. Senators, and the Pembroke Little Lumber Kings from 1933 to 1936. He turned pro with the Pittsburgh Yellow Jackets in 1936-37.

Giesebrecht got his first stint with the Red Wings in 1938-39 and was a regular in 1940-41 and 1941-42. In total he played in 135 regular season games and scored 27 goals and 51 assists. In the playoffs he scored 2 goals and 3 assists in 17 games.

He played for the Ottawa Commandos as they won the Allan Cup in 1943. After playing for other military teams during World War II, Giesebrecht returned to his hometown to play for the Pembroke Lumber Kings. Aside from a short spell with the Ottawa Senators in the 1946-47 playoffs, he played for the Lumber Kings from 1945 until his retirement in 1952.
