
Ron Lapointe (November 12, 1949 – March 23, 1992) was a Canadian ice hockey coach. He was named interim head coach of the Quebec Nordiques half way through the 1987-88 NHL season. After an 11-20-2 start in the 1988-89 season, Lapointe was fired. His total NHL coaching record was 33-50-6. He was born in Verdun, Quebec. He died at age 42 on March 23, 1992, after a three year battle with kidney cancer. The Ron Lapointe Trophy is named in his honour, and awarded to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Coach of the Year.
He played pro hockey in 1969-70 and 1970-71 as a defenceman.
Lapointe coached the Montreal Juniors in 1979-80, the Quebec Remparts in 1981-82, the Shawinigan Cataractes from 1982 to 1985, the Fredericton Express in 1986-87, and the Milwaukee Admirals in 1989-90. He also was an assistant coach for the Washington Capitals in 1985-86.
