Ron Attwell (born February 9, 1935 in Humber Summit (a neighbourhood of Toronto, Ontario) is a retired professional ice hockey player who played 22 games in the National Hockey League. He played with the St. Louis Blues and New York Rangers.
In junior hockey his status became the spark for a national (Canadian) dispute. He was transferred from Ontario to the Montreal Junior Canadiens by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1952-53 season. The Ontario Hockey Association objected and the Quebec Amateur Hockey Association (QAHA) refused to budge. The Canadian Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA) then suspended the QAHA.
Attwell remained in Montreal and played for the Junior Canadiens and the Montreal Junior Royals in 1953-54.
He turned pro in 1954 and remained in the minor pros until 1967. That year he was sold to the expansion St. Louis Blues by the Canadiens. He played 18 games for the Blues as a 32 year old rookie before being traded to the New York Rangers with Ron Stewart for Barclay Plager and Red Berenson. That was the extent of his NHL career, scoring 1 goal and 7 assists.
Attwell played three seasons for the American Hockey League's Buffalo Bisons and retired in 1970.
