Reto Berra (born 3 January 1987) is a Swiss professional ice hockey goaltender. He currently plays for EHC Biel in the Swiss National League A.
Career[]
Berra began his career at the ZSC Lions and played for the elite A-juniors and juniors for the GCK Lions. In the 2003/04 season, he made his debut in the National League B for the GCK Lions and played well in the following years for their juniors and Professional team. In the 2005/06 season he was backed up by Ari Sulander in the National League A, but came back to operations in the NLB. For the 2006 NHL Entry Draft Berra was picked by the St. Louis Blues in the fourth round as the 106th selected. In the next season was initially Berra once again back-up when ZSC [1] and graduated into the NLA after two games. In addition, he played 19 games in the NLB for the GCK Lions and had three players in the Swiss U20 national team. In the playoffs the injured Ari Sulander, was replaced by Berra in four other games in the NLA. After the ZSC Lions contract with Sulander extended in the summer of 2007, Berra decided to switch to HC Davos,[2] where first choice goalkeeper Jonas Hiller played before his departure to the NHL. He left after two years HC Davos and signed on 15 April 2009 an contract with EHC Biel, he signed an contract between 2010.[3]
International[]
Berra has played several times in junior national teams of Switzerland. His first big tournament in 2005 was at the U18 World Championship. Both in the World Cup 2006, as well as those of 2007 he was the regular U20 national team goalkeeper and contributed significantly to the fate of Switzerland in the A-group.
