There are ice rinks in Aguadilla and San Juan, which were the basis for early efforts to popularize the sport by the unaffiliated Puerto Rico Ice Hockey Federation. Currently, the Puerto Rico Ice Hockey Association oversees the Puerto Rico Ice Hockey National Teams in Latin American tournaments. Dean Hulett who was drafted in the 8th round, 154th overall in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft was born in San Juan. Carl Gustafsson was also born in Puerto Rico.
