Pavel Brendl (b. March 23rd 1981 in Nove Mesto nad Metuji, Czechoslovakia) is a professional right winger who plays in the Kontinental Hockey League for Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod.

Playing career

Product of the HC Olomouc system, the highly touted Brendl litterally burnt the Western Hockey League with the Calgary Hitmen from 1998 to 2001, collecting 172 goals and 148 assists (320 points) in 178 regular season games and 78 points in 40 playoffs games. He established franchise records for the most goals (73) and points (134) for one season in 1998-99. His high skills made him the New York Rangers' first pick in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft (4th overall).

Traded to the Philadelphia Flyers prior to his NHL debuts in 2001, Brendl played only 8 games in the big league that season, scoring only once. He did better with the Philadelphia Phantoms, being invited to the 2002 AHL All-Star Game. However, Brendl failed to translate his WHL successes to either the NHL or AHL and returned to Europe.

Brendl was gold medallist with the Czech National Team at the 2001 World Junior Championship.
