The Page Playoff system is a playoff format which is traditionally used in North America in the sport curling. It is designed to make it easier for a higher seeded team to win a tournament as a reward for finishing with a better regular season or tournament record.
Format[]
In a four team tournament the top two ranked teams are matched up in one quarterfinal (referred to as the 1-2 game, major semifinal, or second semifinal by some users of this system) with the third and fourth ranked teams being matched up in the other quarterfinal (referred to as the 3-4 game, minor semifinal, or first semifinal). The winner of the 1-2 game advances directly to the final while the loser plays in a semifinal (or preliminary final) match against the winner of the 3-4 game with the winner of the match advancing to the final (or Grand Final). The loser of the 3-4 game and the semifinal game are eliminated.
The British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League used it for its' playoff format as a result of the reorganization of the league for the 2021-22 BCIHL Season.
Other uses[]
The format is also used in Australian Rules football, as well as the Indian Premier Cricket League.
