The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks formerly UOIT Ridgebacks women's ice hockey team represents Ontario Tech University (formerly and still legally the University of Ontario Institute of Technology) in the Ontario University Athletics conference. Former Winter Games silver medalist Karen Nystrom is the Ridgebacks head coach.
History[]
The Ridgebacks joined the CIS in 2006-07. By winning the 2012 Marion Hilliard Award, Jill Morillo became the first UOIT ice hockey player to receive a CIS award. During the 2011-12 campaign, she was the Ridgebacks team captain. In 26 OUA conference games, she accumulated 32 points (17 goals and 15 assists, all new program highs)[1] to rank third in conference scoring. By being named an OUA first team all-star in 2012, Morillo became the first Ridgebacks women’s hockey player to earn first team all-star status.
