Ondřej Roman (born on February 8, 1989 in Ostrava) is a Czech ice hockey center [1] currently playing for the Ilves of the Liiga. He was drafted 136th overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by Dallas Stars.
Club career
Roman began with junior hockey in the HC Poruba and in the HC Vítkovice. In the 2005-06 season, Roman also made his senior debut playing one game for the HC Vítkovice Steel of the Tipsport Extraliga.
In 2006, Roman moved to North America to play with Spokane Chiefs of the WHL. He played there in 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons.
In the 2008-09 season, Roman played 32 games for the Chiefs and recorded the same amount of points plus another 5 points in 12 play-off games. He also played for the HC Vítkovice Steel again and scored 9 points in 26 games.
After that, Roman spent whole 2009-10 season in the Czech Republic playing for the HC Vítkovice Steel of the Tipsport Extraliga and for the HC Havířov Panthers of the 1. Liga.
In 2010, Roman moved back to North America and he played the season with Texas Stars of the AHL. In his second season with the Stars, he was playing again with the Texas Stars and also with the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL. In the middle of this season, Roman was traded and was sent to play with the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL. Then he also played for Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL. All in all, in the season 2011-12, Roman played for 4 teams. After this season, Roman finally moved back to Europe.
He signed with the HC Vítkovice Steel again and spent there 3 seasons.
For the season 2015-16, Roman signed with Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg of the KHL. After one season, Roman moved back and signed with HC Vítkovice again.
Roman then spent another 4 seasons with HC Vítkovice.
In 2020, Roman signed an one-year contract with the Ilves of the Liiga.
International career
Roman played for the Czech Republic at the 2006 and 2007 World U18 Championships and at the 2009 World Junior Championship.
