Ondřej Roman (born on February 8, 1989 in Ostrava) is a Czech ice hockey center [1] currently playing with the HC Dynamo Pardubice of the Tipsport Extraliga. He was drafted 136th overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by Dallas Stars.

Club career[]

Roman began with junior hockey in the HC Poruba and in the HC Vítkovice organisations. In the 2005-06 season, Roman made his senior debut playing one game with the HC Vítkovice Steel of the Tipsport Extraliga while he also played 4 play-off games with the HC Vítkovice under-18 team and 46 regular season games plus 5 play-off games with the HC Vítkovice under-20 team.

In 2006, Roman moved to North America to play with the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL. He played there in the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons. In the 2007-08 season, Roman helped the Chiefs win the WHL title and also win the CHL Memorial Cup.

In the 2008-09 season, Roman played 32 games with the Chiefs and recorded the same amount of points plus another 5 points in 12 play-off games. He also played with the HC Vítkovice Steel of the Tipsport Extraliga and scored 9 points in 26 games and also scored 4 points in 4 games with the HC Vítkovice under-20 team.

After that, Roman spent whole 2009-10 season in the Czech Republic. He played 10 games with the HC Vítkovice under-20 team, 26 games with the HC Vítkovice Steel of the Tipsport Extraliga and 11 games on loan with the HC Havířov Panthers of the 1. Liga.

In 2010, Roman moved back to North America and he played the season with the Texas Stars of the AHL.

In his second season with the Dallas Stars organisation, he played 24 games with the Texas Stars of the AHL and also 6 games with the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL. In the middle of this season, Roman was traded and was sent to play with the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL. He finished there the season with 16 games played. Then he also played 3 games with the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL. After this season, Roman finally moved back to Europe.

He signed with the HC Vítkovice Steel of the Tipsport Extraliga again and spent there 3 seasons.

For the season 2015-16, Roman signed with Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg of the KHL. After one season, Roman moved back and signed with the HC Vítkovice (formerly HC Vítkovice Steel) again.

Roman then spent another 4 seasons with HC Vítkovice.

In 2020, Roman signed a one-year contract with the Ilves of the Liiga but after 12 games played in the season, Roman moved back to Czechia to finish the season with the HC Dynamo Pardubice of the Tipsport Extraliga.

He is currently signed with the Dynamo until the end of the 2022-23 season.

International career[]

Roman played with the Czech National Team at the 2006 and 2007 World U18 Championships (winning the bronze medal at the 2006 tournament and being named one of the top 3 players on the Czech team at the 2007 championship) and at the 2009 World Junior Championship (where he was also named one of the top 3 players of the Czech squad).
