The Northern Premier Hockey League formerly the Eastern Ontario Super Hockey League is a men's senior hockey league founded for the 2019-20 season.

2019-20

• Cornwall Prowlers joined from Outaouais Senior A Hockey League based out of Benson Centre
• Deseronto Bulldogs
• Maxville Millionaires were originally to be known as Maxville Maniacs based out of the Maxville Arena
• West Carleton Rivermen based out of Cavanagh Sensplex

2020-21

• a possible team to be based out of the Ingredion Centre in Prescott. was mentioned but did not come to be for 2019-20. Vankleek Hill was originally mentioned but later dropped out. Akwesasne has showed interest in joining for the 2020-21 season (along with four other potential expansion teams).  The league would later announce its intent to play with six teams for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons and to eight teams for the 2022-23 season.

Membership Changes for 2020-21

• The Maxville Millionaires are renamed the Maxville Mustangs when the team is sold.
• On October 8, 2020 the Pontiac Sr Comets join the league from the Quebec Senior AA Hockey League.
• The Frontenac Phantoms, Glengarry Pipers, and Smiths Falls Rideaus are added to the league as new teams.
• The league would also announce the addition of a team from Chesterville which would take the name North Dundas Sr. Rockets.

• The league would end up cancelling its 2020-21 season around January 21 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

2021-22

• The league announced the addition of the South Grenville Sr. Rangers and the Gananoque Sr. Islanders for the 2021-22 season.

• On May 3rd the league announced the addition of a new team in the Municipality of Tweed. On May 18th it was announced that the team would take the name Tweed Oil Kings as a tribute to the Tweed BP Oil Kings, who won the All-Ontario Intermediate C Championship for the 1975-76 season.

• On July 13, 2021 the league would announce that the Pontiac Sr Comets would have to sit out the season due to uncertainty over the arena they were planning on playing in that may not be able to open due to local restriction.

• On the same day the league announced the addition of the Bytown Sr. Royals to the league. The team will be based out of Gloucester, Ontario.

• The West Carleton Rivermen relocated to the Nick Smith Centre in Arnprior from the Cavanagh Sensplex in Kinburn.

2022-23

• The West Carleton Rivermen are renamed the Arnprior Rivermen without relocating.

• The Frontenac Phantoms relocated to the Cataraqui Arena in Kingston but are not renamed.

• The Maxville Mustangs relocated to Long Sault Arena in South Stormont and are renamed the South Stormont Mustangs.

2023-24

• The Pontiac Sr Comets are announced as returning to the league for the 2023-24 season. The team would end out opting out of playing in the league when the team was voted into playing in the West Conference of the league and objected to the additional travel.

• The league will add the Low, Quebec based Paugan Falls Rapids, the Marmora, Ontario based Centre Hastings Ice Miners, and the Barry's Bay based MV Wolves (MV standing for Madawaska Valley) for the 2023-24 playing season according to a posting listing teams for the 2023-24 season on the league website.

• The South Grenville Sr. Rangers would relocate to the Prescott Arena in Prescott prior to the start of the 2023-24 season.

• On January 21, 2024 the league announced that the Centre Hastings Ice Miners were terminated from the league. The team last three games of the season would be recorded as 1-0 forfeit losses. Apparently, the team would have been attempting to relocate the team for the last three games of the season; but, the league voted 10-2 to terminate the franchise's membership in the league.

2024-25

• On May 1, 2024 after the annula league meeting, the league announced the sale and relocation of the Cornwall Prowlers to Manotick where they will become the Manotick Mariners. Also on May 1st the league announced the addition of the Lindsay Barncats and the Westport Lumberjacks.

• On August 14, 2024 the league announced the sale and relocation of the Bytown Sr. Royals. The team is relocating to Fort Coulonge, Quebec and will be renamed the Pontiac Sr Comets. The organization had originally planned on joining the league in 2020 when the 2020-21 QSAAHL season was cancelled in an attempt to get a season in.

• The MV Wolves modify their name to the Madawaska Valley Wolves.

2025-26

• On April 26, 2025 the league announced that it would be renamed the Northern Premier Hockey League.

• On April 27, 2025 the league announced the addition of the Alvinston Killer Bees, Strathroy Jets, Tilbury Bluebirds, and Woodstock Lakers, which will form the Metropolitan League under the NPHL umbrella. All of the teams were formerly members of the Ontario Super Hockey League.
