NOHA

This is a list of Northern Ontario Senior hockey champions, under the authority of the Northern Ontario Hockey Association (NOHA). They competed for the Allan Cup in every season except 1944-45. In that season, wartime restrictions prevented Allan Cup competition.

The region produced five Eastern Canada champions, three Allan Cup Champions and one world champion in the 1938 World Championship won by the Sudbury Wolves.

Notes:

  1. The 1925-26 Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds were the strongest senior team in this district. They had applied to the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA) to join the 1925-26 Thunder Bay Senior Playoffs where there were two strong teams. The CAHA refused permission so the Greyhounds joined the Central Amateur Hockey League in order to have good competition. Without the Greyhounds there was no senior league in Northern Ontario.
  2. Sudbury lost their 1935-36 quarterfinal series against the Hamilton Tigers. The Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) insisted that Hamilton play its home game in the next series against Montreal in Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. The Tigers naturally wanted to play at home in Hamilton. When the OHA insisted the Tigers dropped out and were replaced by the Sudbury Falcons.
  3. There was no senior level competition in Northern Ontario in 1966-67 and 1967-68. The Harricana League was the highest level league in the region.
  4. 1970-71, 1971-72, and 1972-73 was a combined Thunder Bay-Northern Ontario Senior playoff.
  5. 1970-71 and 1972-73 Lost Thunder Bay-Northern Ontario playoff to Thunder Bay Twins.
