The Northern Colorado Eagles are a junior team in the United States Premier Hockey League (USPHL). They play in Greeley, Colorado at the Greeley Ice Haus. The team was established as an expansion team for the 2013-14 season.

HistoryEdit

The Colorado Junior Eagles began play in the 2013-14 WSHL Season. The team has been coached by Steve Haddon since it’s inception. In its first year, the team had played its games in EPIC in Fort Collins, Colorado. However, the team announced that it was moving its home games to the NoCo Ice Center in Windsor, Colorado for the 2014-15 Season after closing out their inaugural year at the NoCo Ice Center. The team also had a game at the Budweiser Events Center against the Cheyenne Stampede in the 2015-16 season as a part of a special double header with the Colorado Eagles.

The team has had relative success since joining the league, making the Mountain Divisin finals every year. In the 2015-16 Season they qualified for their first ever Thorne Cup finals, which they lost to the Idaho Jr. Steelheads 3 games to 0. They returned to the Thorne Cup Finals tournament in 2016-17, where they failed to win a round robin game and were eliminated.

Despite losing the series, John Olver, coach of the now Idaho IceCats, has said that the 2015-16 Jr. Eagles team was the best team he has ever gone up against in his tenure as head coach.

The Junior Eagles are the only organization in the WSHL to have a player sign a professional tryout contract. Levi Weber signed a tryout contract with the Colorado Eagles of the ECHL.

On June 6, 2018 the organization announced they were relocating to the Greeley Ice Haus in Greeley, Colorado and would be renamed the Northern Colorado Eagles.

The team would be announced as joining the United States Premier Hockey League's Premier league for the 2020-21 season.[1]
