History[]
The North Bay Black Hawks were organized in 1947 as the first senior team from North Bay, Ontario since 1939.
They won the Northern Ontario Hockey Association's senior title in their second season (1948-49) but lost out in he 1948-49 Eastern Canada Allan Cup Playoffs . After two seasons of irregular play in the Northern Ontario Hockey Association's series, the team wanted a more regular schedule. They joined the Ottawa District Hockey Association's Eastern Canada Senior Hockey League in 1949-50. The Black Hawks were not elibible for that league's playoffs and played, instead, in the Northern Ontario Hockey Association playoffs.
This situation lasted for two seasons before the Northern Ontario Hockey Association organized its own senior league that the Black Hawks joined in 1951-52.
In 1952 the Black Hawks adopted the more historical name of the North Bay Trappers.
