The Montreal Force (French: la Force de Montréal) are a professional women's ice hockey team based in Montreal, Quebec, due to start play in the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) in 2022.
History[]
Montreal was long planned as a location for a PHF expansion franchise, but uncertainties due to the then-ongoing COVID-19 pandemic led the league to delay such plans.[2] An expansion franchise was announced by the league in July 2022, with the owners announced as BTM Partners, which also owns three other PHF teams.[3] The team's name, logo and jersey was announced in a press release from the league the following month.[4]
The team will not have an official home arena for the 2022-23 season, but instead will play home games across the province of Quebec, which is expected to include Montreal, Gatineau, Quebec City, Rimouski, Rivière-du-Loup, Saint-Jérôme and Sept-Îles, Quebec.[5] Gatineau would later be removed from the list as the team plans to play two games in each city for 2022-23.
Three uniforms are to be used for the inaugural season, one jersey maroon with white stripes, one black with maroon stripes, and one white with maroon stripes, all with a fleur-de-lis shoulder patch.[4]
