History[]
This was a senior league that operated in and around Montreal from 1910-11 through 1923-24. It was formed as a home for the amateur teams of Montreal after the openly professional National Hockey Association started in 1909-10. Until 1919-20 it operated outside of the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association's residency rules so it was not eligible for the Allan Cup.
It did, however, compete for the Art Ross Cup during those years. The league folded into the Eastern Canada Hockey League in 1924.
