Miro Aaltonen (born on June 7, 1993 in Joensuu) is a Finnish professional ice hockey center. He is currently playing with the SKA St. Petersburg of the KHL. Aaltonen was selected by the Atlant Moscow Oblast in the 2nd round (45th overall) of the 2011 KHL Junior Draft and by the Anaheim Ducks 177th overall in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
Club career[]
Aaltonen began his junior career with the Jokipojat organisation. In 2009, he moved to the Blues organisation. He made his senior debut in the 2011-12 season playing 26 regular season games plus 10 play-off games with the Blues of the SM-liiga and 4 games on loan with the Jokipojat of the Mestis. In this season, he also played 14 regular season games plus 4 games in the play-offs with the Blues junior team.
The 2012-13 season was Aaltonen's last junior season. He played 32 games with the Blues of the SM-liiga and 8 play-off games with their junior team.
Aaltonen continued playing with the Blues of the Liiga (formerly SM-liiga) until the end of the 2014-15 season. Then he spent one season with the Kärpät of the Liiga.
In 2016, Aaltonen signed with the Vityaz Podolsk of the KHL and spent there one season.
After that, Aaltonen tried his luck in North America playing one season with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL and winning the Calder Cup. Following the end of this season, Aaltonen moved back to Europe and signed again with the Vityaz Podolsk of the KHL.
Aaltonen spent with Vityaz Podolsk entire 2018-19 season and most of the 2019-20 season. He played at the 2019 KHL All-Star Game. After 34 games played for the Vityaz Podolsk in the 2019-20 season, Aaltonen moved to finish the season with the SKA St. Petersburg of the KHL. In that season, he played 11 regular season games and 4 play-off games with the SKA.
Aaltonen now continues with the SKA St. Petersburg in the 2020-21 season and is signed there until the end of the 2021-22 season.
International career[]
Aaltonen participated as a member of the Finnish National Team at the 2010 World U17 Hockey Challenge, 2011 World U18 Championship, 2012 and 2013 World Junior Championships and at the 2017 World Championship.
