Max Friberg (born on November 20, 1992 in Skövde) is a Swedish ice hockey right winger who is currently playing with the Frölunda HC of the SHL. Friberg was drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in the fifth round, 143rd overall, of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Club career[]

Friberg played junior hockey with the Skövde IK organisation. He made his senior debut during the 2008-09 season playing 24 games with the Skövde IK of the Division 1. He also played 10 games with the Skövde IK under-18 team and 17 games with the Skövde IK under-20 team in the same season.

In the 2009-10 season played Friberg 5 games with the Skövde IK under-18 team, 1 game with the Skövde IK under-20 team and 36 games with the Skövde IK of the Division 1 becoming the under-18 player with the most points scored (30) in the Division 1 overall.

During the 2010-11 season played Friberg 2 games with the Skövde IK under-20 team and 34 games with the Skövde IK od the Division 1. He had the most points among the juniors (13) in the AllEttan South of the Division 1.

In 2011, Friberg moved to the Timrå IK organisation. He played 2 games with the Timrå IK under-20 team, 48 regular season games and 10 Kvalserien SHL games with the Timrå IK of the Elitserien and 1 game on loan with the IF Sundsvall Hockey of the HockeyAllsvenskan.

Friberg signed a contract with the Anaheim Ducks organisation after the 2011-12 season. However, he spent almost the whole 2012-13 season on loan with the Timrå IK of the Elitserien. After he ended the European season with 55 regular season games and 10 Kvalserien SHL games played, he moved to North America to finish there the season with the Norfolk Admirals of the AHL. He played there another 6 games in the 2012-13 season.

Friberg continued with the Norfolk Admirals of the AHL during the 2013-14 season. He made his NHL debut during the 2014-15 season when he played one game with the Anaheim Ducks of the NHL. He also played 58 games with the Norfolk Admirals of the AHL in this season.

Friberg also began the 2015-16 season with the Ducks organisation. He played 5 games with the Anaheim Ducks of the NHL and 25 games with the San Diego Gulls of the AHL before moving to the St. John's IceCaps of the AHL where he finished the season with 42 games played.

Friberg continued with the Montréal Canadiens organisation during the 2016-17 season but spent the whole season with the Canadiens' AHL affiliate, the IceCaps. After the season returned Friberg to Europe.

Since 2017, Friberg is playing with the Frölunda HC of the SHL (formerly Elitserien). In the 2018-19 season, Friberg scored most goals in the SHL play-offs (8) and helped Frölunda HC in becoming the SHL champion and also the CHL champion. They also won the CHL in the next season. In the 2020-21 season, he was the player who scored most shorthanded goals (4) in the SHL. Friberg is signed there until the end of the 2022-23 season.

International career[]

Friberg played with the Swedish National Team at the 2010 World U18 Championship (winning there silver medal) and at the 2011 and 2012 World Junior Championships. At the 2012 tournament, Friberg was named one of the top 3 players on the Swedish squad and was selected into the tournament's All-Star Team as he scored most goals on the tournament (9) and as the Swedish team won the gold medal.
