Matthew Myers (born on November 6, 1984 in Cardiff) is a Welsh professional ice hockey center currently playing with the Sheffield Steelers of the EIHL Series.
Club career[]
Myers began his junior career with the Cardiff Satans. He made his senior debut in the 2001-02 season when he played 32 games with the Cardiff Devils of the BNL while he also played 8 games with the Cardiff Satans.
In the 2002-03 season played Myers 30 regular season games and 10 play-off games with the Cardiff Devils of the BNL and 5 games with the Swindon Lynx of the EPIHL.
In the next season continued Myers with the Cardiff Devils of the EIHL.
In 2004 - 2009 played Myers with the Nottingham Panthers of the EIHL. In the 2004-05 season, he recorded most assists (9) among the British U23s of the EIHL. In the 2006-07 season became Myers the EIHL Play-off champion and in the 2007-08 season the EIHL champion.
Myers then began the 2009-10 season with the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL but after just 6 games played, he moved to the Johnstown Chiefs of the ECHL where he finished the season with 22 games played.
In 2010 - 2013, he played with the Nottingham Panthers of the EIHL again. He became the EIHL Cup champion and EIHL Play-off champion in all these three seasons and he also became the EIHL champion and the EIHL Grand Slam winner in the 2012-13 season.
In 2013 - 2015, Myers returned to the Cardiff Devils of the EIHL. In the 2014-15 season, he became the EIHL Cup champion.
In the 2015-16 season, Myers played again with the Nottingham Panthers of the EIHL. In this season, he became the EIHL Cup champion and the EIHL Play-off champion and was also named the EIHL Player of the Week on January 24, 2016.
In 2016 - 2020, Myers played with the Cardiff Devils of the EIHL. In the 2016-17 season, he became the EIHL champion, EIHL Cup champion and EIHL Erhardt Conference champion. In the 2017-18 season, Myers became the EIHL Champion, the EIHL Erhardt Conference champion and the EIHL Play-off champion. In the 2018-19 season, he became the EIHL Play-off champion.
In the 2020-21 season played Myers with the Sheffield Steelers of the EIHL Series (shortened substitute of the EIHL). He is currently signed there until the end of the 2020-21 season.
International career[]
Myers played with the British National Team at the 2002 World U18 Championship Division II (winning there bronze), 2003 and 2004 World Junior Championships Division II (winning silver at the 2003 tournament and gold at the 2004 tournament), 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 World Championships Division I (winning bronze at the 2009 tournament and silver in 2011), 2012, 2013 and 2018 World Championships Division IA (winning gold at the 2018 tournament), 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 World Championships Division IB (winning silver at the 2015 and 2016 tournaments and gold in 2017) and at the 2019 World Championship.
