Matthew Barnaby (born May 4, 1973 in Ottawa, Ontario) is a Canadian retired NHL right winger. Barnaby played for the Buffalo Sabres, Pittsburgh Penguins, Tampa Bay Lightning, New York Rangers, Colorado Avalanche, Chicago Blackhawks and the Dallas Stars.
Playing career[]
He was drafted by Buffalo 83rd overall in the fourth round in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft.
Barnaby was generally considered a pest. Therefore, he racked up penalty minutes (his personal record was 335 with the 1995–96 Sabres), and was frequently involved in on-ice altercations. Among other incidents in 1996, in a game between the Sabres and the Philadelphia Flyers after a few hits and Barnaby laying on the ice presumably injured, a brawl between the two teams started. With the brawl in full motion, Barnaby jumped to his skates to punish Garth Snow, goaltender of the Flyers, who was poking Barnaby with his stick while the referees weren't looking.
In July 2007, Barnaby announced his retirement from the NHL due to a concussion he suffered in January, 2007. He stated he wanted to be around his son and daughter while they participate in hockey and gymnastics.

Awards and achievements[]
Barnaby recorded his 300th and final career point on December 23, 2006 against Edmonton. Barnaby earned an assist on Jon Klemm's first-period goal.
