Markus Schlacher (born on August 23, 1987 in Villach)[1] is a retired Austrian ice hockey defenceman/right winger.
Club career[]
Schlacher began playing junior hockey with the Villacher SV organisation. He made his senior debut during the 2003-04 season when he played 3 games with the Villacher SV of the EBEL while he also played 24 games with the Villacher SV under-20 team.
In the 2004-05 season, Schlacher played 21 games with the Villacher SV under-20 team and 20 regular season games and 3 play-off games with the Villacher SV of the EBEL.
In the next season played Schlacher 14 games with the Villacher SV under-20 team and 43 regular season games and 9 play-off games with the Villacher SV of the EBEL and became the EBEL champion with the Villacher SV.
In 2006, Schlacher moved to the Skellefteå AIK organisation and played there 36 regular season games and 2 play-off games with the Skellefteå AIK junior team and 9 games with the Skellefteå AIK of the Elitserien.
In 2007 - 2011 played Schlacher with the EHC Linz of the EBEL.
Schlacher then spent the 2011-12 season with the EC Salzburg of the EBEL. He also won the 2011 European Trophy with the EC Salzburg.
In 2012 - 2015, Schlacher played with the Vienna Capitals of the EBEL.
In 2015, Schlacher finally returned to his youth team, the Villacher SV of the EBEL. After five more seasons spent there, Schlacher retired in 2020. He won the EBEL Kärntner Eishockey Superstar des Jahres award in the 2015-16 and 2018-19 seasons.
International career[]
Schlacher played with the Austrian National Team at the 2005 World U18 Championship Division I, 2006 and 2007 World Junior Championships Division I (winning silver and being named the Best Forward of the tournament in 2007), 2014, 2016 and 2017 World Championships Division IA (winning silver in 2014 and gold in 2017) and at the 2018 and 2019 World Championships.
