Markus Hannikainen (born on March 26, 1993 in Helsinki) is a Finnish professional ice hockey left/right winger. He is currently playing with the Jokerit of the KHL.
Club career[]
Hännikäinen played junior hockey with the Jokerit organisation. He made his senior debut during the 2011-12 season when he played 16 regular season games plus 12 play-off games with the Jokerit under-20 team, 15 games with the Jokerit of the SM-liiga and 10 games on loan with the Kiekko-Vantaa of the Mestis.
In the 2012-13 season, Hännikäinen played 11 games with the Jokerit under-20 team, 20 regular season games and 1 play-off game with the Jokerit of the SM-liiga and 21 games on loan with the Kiekko-Vantaa of the Mestis.
The 2013-14 season was Hännikäinen's last junior one. He played 4 regular season games and 4 play-off games with the Jokerit under-20 team, 18 regular season games and 2 play-off games with the Jokerit of the Liiga (formerly SM-liiga), 15 games on loan with the Kiekko-Vantaa of the Mestis and 4 games on loan with the HPK of the Liiga.
In the 2014-15 season played Hännikäinen with the JYP of the Liiga. In this season, he won the Matti Keinonen Trophy for the player with the best plus/minus (+22) in the Liiga.
In 2015, Hännikäinen tried his luck in North America. In the 2015-16 season played Hännikäinen 4 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets of the NHL and 50 regular season games plus 16 play-off games with the Lake Erie Monsters of the AHL. In this season, he became the AHL Calder Cup champion.
In the 2016-17 season, he played 10 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets of the NHL and 57 games with the Cleveland Monsters of the AHL.
In the next season, Hännikäinen played 33 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets of the NHL and 8 games with the Cleveland Monsters of the AHL.
In the 2018-19 season played Hännikäinen only with the Columbus Blue Jackets of the NHL.
After 28 games played with the Cleveland Monsters of the AHL in the 2019-20 season, Hännikäinen was traded to the Arizona Coyotes organisation and finished the season with their AHL affiliate, the Tucson Roadrunners. He played there 7 games.
Since 2020, Hännikäinen is playing with the Jokerit of the KHL. He is currently signed there until the end of the 2022-23 season.
International career[]
Hännikäinen played with the Finnish National Team at the 2011 World U18 Championship, 2012 and 2013 World Junior Championships and at the 2017 World Championship.
