The Maritime Senior Hockey League was played in the Maritimes during the 1991-92 season after the senior hockey leagues in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia merged together in August of 1991.

Following the end of the 1990-1991 season, the New Brunswick Senior Hockey League (1968-1992) was down to only two teams after the Miramichi Packers and the Campbellton Tigers (senior) folded. Leaving only the Charlottetown Islanders and Saint John Vito's.

In the Nova Scotia Senior Hockey League (1982-1995), the Port Hood Bees folded leaving only the Dartmouth Mounties, Truro Bearcats and the Bridgewater Blues.

Charlottetown finished first with a win-loss-tie record of 21-9-2, Saint John was second with a record of 21-9-2, Dartmouth was third (18-13-1), Truro was fourth (12-19-1) and Bridgewater was fifth (5-27).

The Islanders finished one point ahead of the Vito's due to one of their losses coming in overtime.

The Blues actually forfeiting their final six games and decided not to play out the remainder of the season.

The Charlottetown Islanders advanced to the 1992 Allan Cup, losing to the Vitos 3-1 in the Maritime final. The Islanders would go 1-2-0 in the round robin and advance to the semifinal where they lost 5-1 to the Stony Plain Eagles.

The Vito's won the 1992 Allan Cup, defeating the Eagles 6-2 in the finals.
