The Maritime Major (U 18) Female Hockey League is a female U-18 Hockey league. The league plays under the sanction of Hockey Nova Scotia and Hockey Canada. Its' three provincial champions advance to the Atlantic Regional tournament qualifier for the Esso Cup.
During the 2020 off-season the league was going through the process of being renamed from the Nova Scotia Female Midget AAA Hockey League due to the league having several teams from outside of Nova Scotia and that Hockey Canada renamed the playing level to U-18.[1]
The Cape Breton Panthers left the league after the completion of the 2019-20 season and the league announced plans to seek a replacement team for Cape Breton. On May 19th the league announced the addition of the Cape Breton Lynx to be based out of the Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre in Membertou, Nova Scotia which start play with the 2020-21 season which was also home of the Panthers organization.[2]
