Malmö Arena or Hyllie Arena is a multi-use indoor arena in Hyllievång, a new development in the city of Malmö, Sweden. Ground was broken for construction on January 10, 2007 and the building was inaugurated on November 6, 2008. It will be used mostly for ice hockey matches, and will have capacity for 12,500 spectators during sporting events and 15,000 for events such as concerts.
Design and construction[]
The stadium was designed by Pöyry Architects and Wingårdhs arkitektkontor, with engineers Byggteknik i Skåne.
The main contractors were Parkfast, with Strängbetong as the precast fabricators and Rautaruukki carrying out steel fabrication.
Events[]
Hyllie Arena will play host to the home matches of the Malmö Redhawks, replacing their former home, the Malmö Isstadion. Melodifestivalen has also been slated to be held at Hyllie Arena in the future.
The Swedish Hockey Federation initially considered the arena to host some matches for the Ice Hockey World Championships in 2012 or 2013, but Malmö was eventually disqualified for not being "Swedish" enough.
