- Prior to the 1993–94 season, the NHL's Western Conference was known as the Clarence Campbell Conference. The Campbell Conference was created in 1974 when the NHL realigned its teams into two conferences and four divisions.

- Technically, there was no official "Conference Finals" prior to 1982. Prior to that time, all teams were pooled together and seeded for the playoffs. For example, the Calgary-Minnesota (1981) and Philadelphia-Minnesota (1980) series were not Campbell Conference Finals. Meanwhile, Minnesota was in the Wales Conference prior to re-alignment, meaning that the decision to call it the Campbell Conference Final was completely arbitrary on the part of the editor. The same holds true for the Eastern Conference.
